TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - China has launched its next-generation 10G network in Xiong’an, a city located about 112.6 kilometers southwest of Beijing in Hebei province.
According to Gizmochina on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, the network is developed with the support of Huawei and China Unicom. The 10G-PON technology is expected to deliver ultra-fast speeds, enabling instant movie downloads and seamless cloud gaming experiences.
Xiong’an, often referred to as China’s futuristic city, was designated in 2017 as a testing ground for advanced technologies under the vision of President Xi Jinping.
Now, it serves as the launch site for China’s groundbreaking 10G broadband network.
What Is the 10G Network?
As reported by Republic World on Monday, April 21, 2025, the 10G broadband network can reach peak speeds of up to 9,834 megabits per second (Mbps), making it one of the fastest commercially available internet services in the world.
With such bandwidth, users can download more than two full-length 4K movies or a single 8K movie in about one second.
The 10G network is expected to unlock new possibilities that previously felt out of reach. These include smooth, immersive VR/AR experiences and fully integrated smart city technologies.
The network is also anticipated to play a key role in advancing AI innovation, especially in supporting large language models that rely on high-volume, uninterrupted data streams.
Xiong’an: A Glimpse of the Future
Currently, Xiong’an remains sparsely populated, but it offers a preview of what a fully connected city powered by 10G technology might look like.
Once the testing phase in Xiong’an is complete, the Chinese government plans to expand the network to other major cities including Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.
According to Antara on March 30, 2025, since China announced the development of the Xiong’an New Area in April 2017, the project has evolved from a blueprint into a dynamic urban hub.
Dubbed China’s “city of the future,” Xiong’an is now undergoing large-scale development. The city’s purpose is also strategic: to relieve Beijing of its non-essential administrative functions and to support a more balanced national urban layout.
