TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) plans to develop Kertajati Airport in West Java into an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) hub.

"The first phase will focus on rotary wings for helicopters, but in the future, we hope it can accommodate other types of aircraft as well," said AHY when met at IDX Tower, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

The plan was initiated through the signing of a cooperation agreement between the ministry and several entities: the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency, PT Bandarudara Internasional Jawa Barat (Perseroda), and PT Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia Tbk (GMF).

Beyond establishing MRO facilities at Kertajati Airport, AHY also aims to develop several regions in West Java, including Rebana, Patimban, and Kertajati, into an aero city or aerospace area. "In addition to revitalizing the airport for passenger traffic, we also want to develop the surrounding area," he stated.

According to AHY, this aerospace area has the potential to contribute approximately 4.6 percent to the national gross domestic product (GDP). He is optimistic that this development will boost economic growth and improve the welfare of the local community by creating jobs and stimulating Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

"Hopefully, [the area] will become a center for sustainable economic growth," said the politician from the Democrat Party.
