TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2026/27 Champions League league phase kicks off this week, with several heavyweight clubs beginning their European campaigns, including Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Arsenal.
One of the biggest fixtures of the opening round will see Real Madrid host Inter Milan at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid on Wednesday, September 9, at 2 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB) or 3 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), according to the UEFA schedule.
Real Madrid will be looking to start their European campaign with a win on home soil after suffering a narrow defeat to Real Betis in La Liga last weekend.
Inter, meanwhile, head into the match with a perfect domestic record. The Italian side have won their first three Serie A matches, beating Monza 4-1, Cagliari 1-0 and Napoli 3-2.
The meeting in Madrid is among the standout fixtures of the opening round, with both sides looking to gain early momentum in the league phase.
Liverpool Face Atletico Madrid
Another high-profile match will take place at Anfield, where Liverpool host Atletico Madrid on Thursday, September 10, at 2 a.m. WIB or 3 p.m. ET.
Liverpool will enter the Champions League after securing their first Premier League win of the season against Ipswich Town last weekend.
Atletico, on the other hand, will be looking to recover from a disappointing domestic result after losing 3-0 to Athletic Club.
The opening round also features several other major European clubs.
Manchester City will visit Porto, while Barcelona will host Feyenoord. Napoli will face Arsenal, while Borussia Dortmund will meet Villarreal.
