TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, is responding to the mining activities at the foothills of Mount Slamet. He has instructed the Energy and Mineral Resources Agency (ESDM) to form a task force. "We will form a mining task force consisting of our agency, the police, the military, and the prosecutor's office," Luthfi said on Monday, December 8, 2025.
This step is taken following the emergence of information about mining activities at the highest mountain in Central Java. Residents have also expressed their objection to the exploitation activities. "Tomorrow the ESDM Agency will immediately send letters to the Regional Police, Military Command, and High Prosecutor's Office to avoid any misdirection," said the former Chief of the Central Java Regional Police.
Luthfi reminded the regents and mayors in his region not to issue mining permits freely. He believes that resident involvement is necessary to prevent rejection. "Truly engage in socializing with the community. If it is not beneficial for the nation, then it's unnecessary," he said. "Otherwise, there will be prolonged resistance."
Previously, there was a buzz on social media about mining activities at Mount Slamet. Discussions on mining activities arose after the flooding disaster in Sumatra. Residents of the Gunung Slamet area are concerned that a similar disaster to the one in Sumatra may occur if mining is allowed at the mountain's base.
