TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN) stated that the Rp20 trillion fund prepared by the Investment Management Agency Danantara Indonesia will be used to finance poultry farmers across Indonesia.
Deputy Head of BGN Nanik S. Deyang emphasized that the fund will not be used to build new farms. Nanik stated in a press release on Monday, November 17, 2025, "So, the budget of Rp20 trillion is to finance the farmers, not for Danantara to build their own farms."
Nanik explained that the project is designed to create an integrated economic ecosystem, involving State-Owned Enterprises upstream and small farms downstream. This approach is claimed to maintain supply stability and egg and chicken prices, thus preventing inflation.
"Danantara will finance both egg and chicken farmers to ensure the fulfillment of egg and chicken needs for the MBG (free nutritious meal) program," Nanik said.
Earlier, Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman stated that Danantara is preparing a Rp20 trillion investment to build chicken farms that will meet the needs of the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG). "We will establish them across Indonesia to supply the National Nutrition Agency (BGN)," said Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman in a written statement on Friday, November 7, 2025.
Amran stated that the trillion rupiah fund for building chicken farms aims to strengthen the national supply of eggs and chicken, increase production, and support the MBG program. With this fund, Indonesia will not face shortages of eggs and chicken.
The price of eggs has continued to soar over the past few months. Head of the Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, stated that as of the second week of November, 157 areas have experienced an increase in egg prices.
Amalia stated that the price of eggs in the second week of November 2025 was recorded at Rp 31,646 per kilogram, which is higher than the consumer reference purchase price set at Rp 30,000 per kilogram.
The demand for eggs has significantly increased following the MBG program. Based on BGN data, the average egg requirement per Single Person Single Grocery (SPPG) as a protein source in the MBG program is recorded at 1,105 kilograms. Following chicken meat, eggs are the second most consumed protein in the MBG, with an average consumption of 1,630 kilograms per SPPG.
