TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – US President Donald Trump thanked Indonesia for its commitment to contribute personnel to an international stabilization mission in Gaza during his address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026.
Trump named Indonesia among countries that had committed to deploying troops and police personnel and providing training to help stabilize Gaza under the International Stabilization Force (ISF), part of the US-backed Board of Peace (BoP).
“I also want to thank the countries that have committed to sending troops, police forces, and providing training to help stabilize Gaza, including Indonesia, Morocco, Albania, Kosovo, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Jordan, and others,” Trump said, as quoted by CNN Indonesia.
Indonesia has committed up to 8,000 personnel for the proposed Gaza stabilization mission. President Prabowo Subianto announced the commitment at the inaugural BoP meeting in Washington in February.
However, Indonesia later put the deployment on hold amid escalating conflict in the Middle East. The Indonesian government announced in March that the deployment would be suspended indefinitely, while the Foreign Ministry said discussions related to the BoP had also been suspended.
Trump Highlights Board of Peace
Trump said the BoP had attracted nearly 30 countries and described the group as an important part of efforts to stabilize and rebuild Gaza.
“This group will be a very important one. Nearly 30 countries have joined this board, which I proudly lead,” Trump said.
He also thanked BoP members that have provided financial assistance for Gaza’s reconstruction, naming Qatar, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Uzbekistan among the contributors.
“These countries have shown extraordinary generosity, and other nations have also contributed incredible amounts because they want to see the people survive,” Trump said.
Trump said the funds were being directed toward reconstruction and humanitarian needs in Gaza.
Indonesia's Gaza Deployment on Hold
Indonesia’s proposed deployment was intended to be part of the International Stabilization Force, with the government saying the mission would support security and recovery efforts in Gaza.
Prabowo said in February that Indonesia was ready to provide up to 8,000 personnel or more if needed.
The plan was subsequently suspended as fighting involving the United States, Israel and Iran escalated. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said in March that the deployment was on hold for an undetermined period.
The Foreign Ministry later reiterated that any Indonesian participation in the ISF would remain under national control and depend on a mandate from the UN Security Council.
Gaza Reconstruction Efforts
Trump’s remarks came as Gaza remained at the center of international diplomatic efforts following years of conflict.
The US-backed BoP was established as part of a 20-point plan for Gaza, with the group tasked with supporting stabilization and reconstruction efforts.
Indonesia has consistently supported Palestinian independence and has expressed readiness to contribute to humanitarian and peacekeeping efforts, while maintaining conditions for any deployment.
Trump used his UN speech to urge international support for efforts to stabilize Gaza and rebuild infrastructure damaged during the conflict.
The proposed international force and reconstruction efforts remain dependent on the broader security situation and arrangements among the parties involved.
