Trump, Netanyahu to Discuss 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire in Washington

4 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet United States President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 06:30 AM local time, which corresponds to 01:30 AM on Tuesday in Israel.

According to Times of Israel, Netanyahu arrived in Washington on Sunday evening. The two leaders are expected to focus on two major topics: a declaration of victory over Iran and a proposed ceasefire in Gaza.

As reported by Al Jazeera, this will be the third time Netanyahu and Trump meet this year. Trump has declared that the United States and Israel have successfully dismantled Iran’s nuclear program during a recent 12-day conflict.

He also warned that he is prepared to launch further airstrikes on Iran if it resumes its nuclear activities.

Plan for a 60-Day Ceasefire in Gaza

Last week, Trump announced that Israel had agreed to a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. The proposed pause is intended to create space for a negotiated end to the conflict, which has persisted for 21 months in the besieged Palestinian enclave.

“There could be a deal on a Gaza ceasefire by next week,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, as quoted by Arab News.

He added that he would push Netanyahu to ensure the ceasefire terms are upheld. A draft version of the agreement reportedly includes a temporary halt in hostilities and the gradual release of some of the 58 Israeli hostages held in Gaza since Hamas launched its attack on October 7, 2023.

Hamas Signals Readiness as Talks Continue

On July 4, Hamas issued a positive response to the latest ceasefire plan brokered by mediators from Qatar and Egypt. However, Israel said Hamas included revisions they found unacceptable. Despite this, Israeli negotiators are still set to travel to Qatar on Sunday to continue discussions.

Earlier, Trump pledged to end the Gaza conflict before taking office in January. Yet, two months into his presidency, he did not intervene when Israel resumed unilateral strikes, which have led to a high civilian death toll.

According to the latest figures, at least 57,000 people, the majority of them women and children, have been killed in Gaza since the war began.
