1. BNPB: Landslides in Banjarnegara Isolate 45 Residents, Hundreds Take Refuge
A landslide in Situkung Village, Pandanarum District, Banjarnegara Regency, Central Java, Indonesia, on Saturday, November 15, 2025, has left dozens of residents isolated and hundreds taking refuge.
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Banjarnegara Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) continue to assess the situation at the Banjarnegara landslide site.
BNPB reports that 45 residents are still isolated due to the landslide in Situkung Village. The evacuation process is still ongoing as access to the location is obstructed by landslide debris.
According to the Head of Data, Information, and Communication Center of BNPB, Abdul Muhari, a total of 286 households or 660 individuals have taken refuge at the Pandanarum Sub-district Office.
The Banjarnegara BPBD has recorded 179 individuals taking refuge at the sub-district hall on Sunday afternoon, and the number is expected to increase as further data collection continues.
2. BNPT Chief Claims Terrorism Network Recruits Young People Through Online Games
The Head of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) in Indonesia, Commissioner General Eddy Hartono, claimed that there is recruitment of terrorism networks through online games. Eddy said this is a new trend currently receiving attention from BNPT.
"We note a pattern of several terrorism networks in Indonesia recruiting young people through social media, including online games, and we have followed up on this," Eddy said in a written statement quoted on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
According to Eddy, many young people are currently being exposed to radical ideologies unconsciously. He stated that BNPT is currently focusing on strengthening counter-radicalization programs in the digital world.
One of these programs is the Duta Damai (Peace Ambassador) program. According to him, this program for young people encourages the distribution of narratives of peace to prevent ideologies that incite violence.
3. What Is the US Doing off Venezuela's Coast?
Early this week, the US Navy's largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, reached its provisional position in the Caribbean. On Thursday, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave the ongoing southern Caribbean mission an official name: Operation Southern Spear.
What is the US military doing in the Caribbean?
Since late August, the US has deployed a number of warships off the Caribbean coast of Venezuela. In early September, the first deadly attack targeted a boat that US officials said was smuggling drugs from the South American country to the US. According to the US government, 19 more such attacks have taken place since then.
What is Operation Southern Spear's goal?
The official goal of the attacks on these "drug boats" in the Caribbean is to stop drug trafficking from South America to the US.
In an X post on Thursday evening, Hegseth said that Operation Southern Spear, in conjunction with the US Southern Command, which is responsible for Central and South America, "removes narco-terrorists from our Hemisphere, and secures our Homeland from the drugs that are killing our people."
