TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has updated the casualties in the disasters that struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra in late November. According to the Indonesian Disaster Data Geoportal owned by BNPB, accessed at 06:58 a.m. local time on Saturday, December 6, 2025, the death toll rose to 883, an increase of 47 victims in a single day.
The data recorded 2 more people missing in the floods and landslides, bringing the total to 520 people unaccounted for. The number of injured also doubled from 2,200 to 4,400 on early Saturday.
BNPB details that the death toll in Aceh has reached 345, with 174 people still missing. In North Sumatra, 312 people were found dead, and 133 are missing. Meanwhile, in West Sumatra, 226 people have been confirmed dead, with 213 people missing.
The floods and landslides affected 51 districts/cities across Sumatra. To date, at least 121,000 houses have been reported damaged. Furthermore, 1.1 thousand public facilities, 270 healthcare facilities, 509 educational facilities, 338 places of worship, 221 buildings or offices, and 405 bridges have been destroyed by floods and landslides.
The Head of Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center of BNPB, Abdul Muhari, said the verification and validation process for the casualty data has been tightened following discrepancies found in the online dashboard reports. Abdul Muhari mentioned that the figures on the geoportal page have been corrected based on the online reports.
"BNPB is also working together with the Iskandar Muda Military Command, Aceh Military Command, and Sultan Iskandar Muda Air Force Base to ensure the optimal search progress for the victims," he said on Wednesday, December 3.
All search, rescue, and emergency handling operations are still focused on the three provinces that are the epicenter of the disaster, with a current focus on the situation in Aceh. To date, access to several affected areas is still hindered by infrastructure damage and unstable rainfall.
