TEMPO.CO, The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts rain to dominate the weather in Indonesia on Saturday, December 6, 2025. BMKG forecaster Yuyun Wulandari, while delivering information on the current atmospheric conditions, said a tropical cyclone seed 93W was observed in the central part of the Philippines.

"This cyclone seed reaches a top wind speed of 20 knots and a minimum air pressure of 1006 hPa," said Yuyun, quoted from the BMKG YouTube channel on Friday night, December 5, 2025.

According to BMKG, this system could potentially drive up wind speeds to more than 25 knots in the eastern waters of the Philippines, the central part of the Philippines, and the Sulu Sea, as well as to form a convergence from the South China Sea to North Kalimantan and from the Sulawesi Sea to the northern waters of North Maluku.

BMKG also detected cyclonic circulation in the Malacca Strait, the southwest Indian Ocean off Sumatra, and the Banda Sea, which also formed elongated wind slowdown area from Maluku to Southwest Papua and from the Arafura Sea to the Banda Sea.

Other convergence areas are found in Sumatra, Riau Islands, Natuna Sea, Kalimantan, Java, West Nusa Tenggara, to Papua. In addition, convergence zones are identified in South Sulawesi and the Makassar Strait.

According to Yuyun, these atmospheric conditions increase the potential for the formation of rain clouds and high waves around cyclone systems or convergence areas. "The combination of atmospheric dynamics causes significant weather potential," she said.

BMKG warns several regions about heavy to very heavy rain, namely Banda Aceh, North Sumatra, Jambi, Bangka Belitung Islands, Bandar Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, South Sulawesi, North Maluku, and Maluku.

In western Indonesia, thunderstorms are likely in Tanjung Pinang, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, and Tanjung Selor. Moderate rain is expected in Bengkulu, Bandung, and Yogyakarta, while drizzles likely to occur in Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Jambi, Palembang, Serang, Jakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, Palangkaraya, Banjarmasin, and Samarinda. Pontianak is forecast to experience thick overcast weather.

In the eastern regions of Indonesia, moderate rain is expected in Kupang, Mamuju, Makassar, Ternate, Ambon, and Merauke. Light rain is forecast in Denpasar, Mataram, Palu, Kendari, Gorontalo, Manado, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya. "Make sure to always update weather information through our website bmkg.go.id and our social media," said the BMKG forecaster.
