TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police have not found any connection between the suspected student who caused several explosions at SMAN 72 Jakarta high school in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, and any terrorist organization.
"So far, as far as I know, there is no involvement with any other group, but this will definitely be conveyed by Densus 88 (Special Detachment) 88 during the release," said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metro Police, Grand Commissioner Budi Hermanto, when met at the Jakarta Metro Police on Monday, November 10, 2025.
According to Budi, Densus 88 is still analyzing the motives and the possible networks involved in the explosion incident.
He refuted the suspicion of an anti-Islam movement that circulated in society regarding this incident. According to Budi, even though it occurred in a mosque, the student facing legal action does not have extremist anti-Islam views. "So don't assume, oh, this is anti-Islam, this is purely an act originating from himself," he said.
Budi explained that the student facing legal action has now regained full consciousness. He has been transferred to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital to facilitate the investigation. "Now, because the person has regainded full consciousness, if his health condition improves further, it will be easier for the investigators to request statements (from the suspected student)," he said.
The explosion at SMAN 72 Jakarta school occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025. The incident took place around 12.30 PM when students and teachers were performing Friday prayers in the school's mosque located in the Kodamar Complex, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
The explosion occurred twice. The first explosion was inside the third-floor musalla. Then, followed by a second explosion a few minutes later from the back area of the canteen. The explosion resulted in at least 96 people being injured, including the suspected perpetrator.
The explosion incident at SMAN 72 Jakarta is suspected to have been designed by a student from the school. Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the suspected perpetrator is currently in police custody, and his subordinates are delving into the perpetrator's identity, environment, and place of residence.
Listyo mentioned that the police are also still investigating the motive. "We are investigating the motive of how the person then assembled and executed his actions; everything will be explained after all the information, findings in the field, the results of the investigation, and further complete investigations," said Listyo at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Friday, November 7, 2025.
