TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is heading for disaster-stricken Sumatra on Monday morning, December 1, 2025.
Prabowo departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, to Raja Sisingamangaraja XII Airport, North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province, at around 06:00 a.m. Jakarta time. The visit is intended to ensure that disaster management efforts are running optimally after floods and landslides swept through parts of the island.
According to the official statement from the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo is scheduled to observe the situation on the ground, including in areas suffering damage and disruptions to basic services. He will also ensure that emergency measures are implemented in accordance with rapid, precise, and coordinated disaster response standards.
The government is also preparing to undertake basic infrastructure recovery for road access, bridges, energy, telecommunications, and health services.
Earlier, President Prabowo had urged his aides to engage in swift disaster handling to minimize its impact.
The palace hopes that the entire emergency response process will become more coordinated and give clarity to the people about the state's presence in disaster management. The government also urges residents to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of authorities in the wake of extreme weather potential.
Prabowo is accompanied by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya during his visit to Sumatra.
In a previous statement, President Prabowo claimed to have instructed his staff to work on mitigating the floods and landslides that had hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra from the first day of the disaster. These include evacuation, aid distribution, as well as disaster recovery in affected regions.
"We have dispatched three Hercules C130 aircraft and one A400 aircraft. We have sent aid multiple times. The government has moved quickly, reacting from the first few days, sending aid through land and air routes, and continuously supporting the people's needs in the field," said Prabowo as quoted in a video from the official account @presidenrepublikindonesia, November 29, 2025.
In the video, Prabowo mentioned that public kitchen tents and the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs) in several areas have been functional to provide meals for the residents. Operational SPPGs include Daulat Lae-Langge SPPG, Cengkeh Turi Binjai Utara SPPG, and Subulussalam SPPG.
Prabowo stated that the central government has deployed various land, sea, and air fleets to ensure that aid reaches all affected areas swiftly and evenly.
In addition to the Hercules C-130 and A400 transport aircraft, the emergency aid sent includes rubber boats for evacuation, refugee tents, emergency power sources, and communication equipment.
Prabowo also expressed deep condolences to all the victims and families affected by the disaster in Sumatra.
"Let us always unite and collaborate, pray for and help our brothers and sisters affected by the disaster. Hopefully, we can soon overcome this difficult time," he said.
