TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's state-owned tin producer PT Timah Tbk is expanding its global export markets to the Philippines and the United Kingdom in 2026, while targeting the Middle East for further market development in 2027.

PT Timah Production and Commercial Director Ilhamsyah Mahendra said the company was expanding its global customer base in response to growing tin demand in several countries.

“For the global market, PT Timah has expanded its markets in 2026,” Ilhamsyah said during the online Public Expose Live 2026 conference in Jakarta on Thursday, September 10, as quoted by Antara.

The Philippines is one of PT Timah's new markets in Asia, while its expansion into the UK targets customers in Southampton. The company has also increased its sales share in existing markets, particularly India.

“India has been the most significant. India's market share in PT Timah's market was previously only 5 percent, but this year it has grown to 12 percent,” Ilhamsyah said.

He attributed the stronger sales share in India partly to the growth of the country's mobile phone and semiconductor industries. PT Timah has also recorded higher sales volumes in Vietnam.

Asia Remains PT Timah's Largest Export Market

According to PT Timah's internal sales report for January to June 2026, exports accounted for 97 percent of the company's tin metal sales, while domestic sales made up the remaining 3 percent.

Asia was the company's largest market, accounting for 75 percent of sales. China accounted for 35 percent, followed by India and Japan at 12 percent each, South Korea at 11 percent, Taiwan at 3 percent, and the Philippines and Vietnam at 1 percent each.

Europe accounted for 19 percent of sales, with the Netherlands contributing 9 percent and Italy 5 percent. Slovakia, Belgium, Hungary, Türkiye and the UK each accounted for 1 percent.

The Americas accounted for the remaining 3 percent.

PT Timah Targets Middle East in 2027

Ilhamsyah said PT Timah would continue expanding its export markets in 2027, with the Middle East among its targets after plans to develop the market there in 2026 were postponed.

“And of course, the Middle East will be one of our target markets next year, in 2027,” he said.

The company also plans to continue developing markets in several European countries while increasing sales volumes in the UK, Vietnam, the Philippines and India.

The expansion comes as global tin consumption continues to outpace production. In the first half of 2026, global tin production stood at around 173,600 metric tons, while consumption reached 179,300 metric tons, according to data presented by PT Timah. The company recorded a supply deficit of around 3 percent during the period.

Tin is widely used in manufacturing industries. PT Timah's data showed that solder accounted for about 53 percent of global tin consumption, followed by tin-based chemicals at 16 percent and tinplate at 11 percent.

Ilhamsyah said global consumption trends were among the factors driving PT Timah's efforts to strengthen its export market base.
