TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, held his wife, Brigitte Macron's hand as they landed in Jakarta during their visit to Indonesia on May 27, 2025. The French presidential plane, Airbus A330-200, arrived at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base at 9:50 PM local time.
Unlike when they landed in Hanoi, Vietnam, Brigitte held Macron's hand as they descended the airplane stairs. Macron even gave a thumbs up at the airplane door.
Brigitte and Macron smiled at the welcoming officials and the media crew. Under the airplane stairs, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin welcomed them both.
Macron and Brigitte walked on the blue sky carpet towards the car. Yet, he took the time to approach the media crew to speak.
"I remember meeting President Jokowi two years ago in Bali, and now, my wife, my delegation, and I are happy to be here in Indonesia," said Macron.
Prior to this, a video circulated showing Brigitte seemingly pushing Macron's face before they descended the presidential plane in Hanoi, Vietnam on Sunday night, May 25, 2025.
According to Macron, the incident was not like the rumors circulating that he was slapped by his wife. "We argued," and "joked," he told reporters on Monday, May 26, 2025.
"You can make a video saying a lot of silly things. Over the past three weeks, there are people watching a video and thinking that I shared a bag of cocaine, that I confronted the President of Turkey directly, and now, that I had an argument with my wife," he said as reported by Le Monde. "None of this is true. However, all three videos are real."
