TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto claimed that Indonesia could become the fourth richest country in the world. However, he stated that for this to happen, Indonesia must be united.
According to Prabowo, this opinion is not only his own. He mentioned that world geopolitics experts share the same view, although he did not disclose their names.
"Geopolitics experts say that Indonesia will become the fourth richest nation in the world," Prabowo declared in his speech at the National Christmas event 2026 in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday evening, January 5, 2025. However, Prabowo stressed that the Indonesian people must be united to achieve this status.
Prabowo emphasized that unity must be achieved, especially at the elite level. "The condition is if the Indonesian nation can unite. What are the conditions? Especially if its elites can work together," stated the former defense minister.
He claimed that he always strives to bring all parties in Indonesia together. According to Prabowo, unity must be prioritized, even though each party has differences and past mistakes. "Because we are human, we are certainly full of sins, and there are definitely mistakes," stated the Chairperson of the Gerindra Party.
Furthermore, Prabowo also addressed various criticisms stating that unity, especially among the elites, is undemocratic. According to Prabowo, competition is a good thing. However, he mentioned that all parties should unite after the competition concludes.
"Compete well, but once the match is over, unite. Unite. Some say that unity is undemocratic. Well? Democracy is permitted. Corrections are welcome. Constructive criticism is good," said Prabowo.
While acknowledging criticism as a good thing, Prabowo pointed out that criticism should not turn into slander. "Slander is not good. All religions do not permit slander. I believe it is the same in Christianity," stated Prabowo in front of the audience at the National Christmas 2025 event.
The National Christmas event 2025 was attended by more than 3,000 people. Officials from the Red and White Cabinet, including Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, were also present to accompany Prabowo.
