TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto said the government has spoken with the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, about the goal to build an Indonesian hajj village in Saudi Arabia.
Prabowo mentioned that he had requested a meeting with Mohammad bin Salman to further discuss the plan. "The last time I met with him, I proposed Indonesia's intention to build a village in the holy land as close as possible to Masjid al-Haram," Prabowo said while inaugurating the Special Hajj and Umrah Terminal 2F at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
According to Prabowo, Mohammed bin Salman's response at that time was positive, and he invited the governments of the two countries to re-plan the technical details. Prabowo added that Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar had also visited to convey the plan.
"If approved by the Saudi government, God willing, we will have our own village and we will make it efficient," Prabowo said.
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Romo H.R. Muhammad Syafi'i mentioned that President Prabowo's goal to establish a village for Indonesian pilgrims was based on his concern about the inadequate services received by Indonesian hajj pilgrims.
"Despite saving or collecting money for many years in a substantial amount, hajj pilgrims do not receive the services they deserve," Romo said at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Friday, December 27, 2024.
Romo stated that the establishment of the Indonesian hajj village had actually received a positive response from the Saudi government, especially from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
"Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has allocated 50 hectares of land for a 100-year concession," he added.
