TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) temporarily suspends the operations of Worldcoin cryptocurrency and its WorldID system after receiving reports of suspicious activities on both platforms. PT Terang Bulan Abadi and PT Sandina Abadi Nusantara, as the entities overseeing both digital services, must clarify the allegations of violations of electronic system operation provisions.
Both companies providing digital identity services will be summoned in the near future. "The suspension is our preventive measure to mitigate its risks to the public," said the Director General of Digital Space Supervision, Alexander Sabar, in a written statement on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
According to Alex, PT Terang Bulan Abadi is not yet registered as an electronic system operator (PSE) and does not possess an electronic system operator registration certificate (TDPSE). Meanwhile, Worldcoin's service is registered using TDPSE under another company's name, PT Sandina Abadi Nusantara.
Worldcoin is a crypto project created by the OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman. World ID is also part of the Worldcoin project, using biometric data as user identity.
According to Government Regulation Number 71 of 2019 concerning Electronic System and Transaction Operation, as well as Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation Number 10 of 2021 concerning Electronic System Operator within Private Scope, every digital service provider is required to be properly registered.
"Non-compliance to the registration requirement and abusing the identity of other legal bodies to conduct digital service operations amounted to serious violations," said Alexander.
Alexander ensured that his institution is committed to overseeing the digital ecosystem fairly and firmly to ensure national digital space security. Active participation from the public is also crucial for such supervision.
Komdigi, he continued, invites the public to help maintain a safe and trustworthy digital space. The public is also urged to remain vigilant against unauthorized digital services
