TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with President of the Arab Republic Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Al Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo on Saturday, April 12, 2025. The meeting of the two heads of state discussed a number of strategic issues, including the situation in Gaza, Palestine.
The Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) Indonesia stated that Gaza is currently on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe. The organization reported that Israel has repeatedly killed medical personnel in Gaza who are actively providing healthcare services.
In an official statement from the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo and El-Sisi had a face-to-face conversation. In addition to discussing the specific situation in Gaza, Prabowo and El-Sisi also discussed the geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East region.
The two heads of state also discussed strengthening Indonesia and Egypt's cooperation in the fields of economy, education, and defense. The Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, Yusuf Permana, stated that the two heads of state also signed a Joint Statement on the Strategic Partnership between the Indonesian Government and Egypt.
"This strategic partnership statement marks a long diplomatic journey between Indonesia and Egypt towards an even higher level of mutual partnership," he said, as monitored from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
During the meeting with the government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Lutfi Rauf.
Prabowo's visit to Egypt is part of a diplomatic visit to the Middle East region, following his attendance at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey. The head of state's visit took place from April 9 to 15, 2025.
After leaving Cairo, the President will continue his visit to Doha, Qatar, and finally to Amman, Jordan. In Doha, President Prabowo will carry out a state visit, while in Amman, President Prabowo will meet with King Abdullah II of Jordan to discuss and consult on Indonesia's plan to help the people of Gaza, Palestine.
