
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang witnessed the signing of four Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) and eight collaborations in various fields at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
They initially witnessed the MoU between Bank Indonesia and People's Bank of China. The MoU pertains to the establishment of a cooperation framework to promote bilateral transactions in local currencies.
Prabowo and Li Qiang also witnessed the MoU between the National Economic Council of the Republic of Indonesia and the National Development and Reform Commission of China. The MoU focuses on cooperative policies in economic development.
They also witnessed the MoU between the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China. The MoU concerns the strengthening of economic cooperation in the industrial and supply chain sectors.
Another MoU was conducted between the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, and the Fujian Provincial Government. The MoU focuses on cooperation in two countries' twin park.
In addition, the Indonesian Government and the Government of the People's Republic of China agreed to collaborate in eight fields. In the tourism sector, cooperation was established between the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China.
In the agricultural export sector, collaboration was initiated between the Indonesian quarantine agency and the general administration of customs of China.
Furthermore, collaboration was established in the field of traditional medicine, coordinated between the Indonesian Ministry of Health and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of China.
Additionally, in the area of tuberculosis prevention and control, cooperation was formed between the Indonesian Ministry of Health and the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration of China.
Moreover, there is an investment collaboration between Danantara and China Investment Corporation. Furthermore, there is a strategic business cooperation between Kadin and the China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia.
There is also a media collaboration between Antara and China Media Group, as well as a news agency collaboration between Antara and Xinhua News Agency.
Li Qiang is scheduled to make an official visit that will last for three days, from May 24 to May 26, 2025.
Previously, Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the People's Republic of China in creating peace and stability in the region. The head of state views the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and China as highly strategic and promising.
"I view the relationship between Indonesia and China as a very strategic, very important, and very promising bilateral relationship that can determine the state of peace and stability in our region," stated President Prabowo in his address at the Indonesia-China Business Reception 2025 held at Hotel Shangri-La, Jakarta, on Saturday, May 24, 2025, as quoted from an official statement.
In his speech, the President also recalled the exceptional honor he received when he first visited China, even before being officially inaugurated as the President of the Republic of Indonesia. "Also, after I was inaugurated, within perhaps less than three weeks, the first country I officially visited as the President of the Republic of Indonesia was the People's Republic of China," he said.
The President also praised the noble values in Chinese civilization that emphasize the principle of mutual benefit and harmony. He also expressed his determination to continue strengthening the cooperation with China as Indonesia's largest trading partner.
"Our trade has exceeded 130 billion US dollars every year. And we view China as a very important partner in our industrial and technological development," stated the President.
According to him, several major cooperation projects between Indonesia and Chinese companies have been successfully implemented, ranging from trade to technology. The President also expressed appreciation for Chinese companies that have created jobs, promoted technology transfer, and demonstrated adaptation to Indonesia's national interests.
In the President's view, Indonesia-China cooperation should not be limited to the economic sector alone. However, the President conveyed that the relationship between Indonesia and China could encompass a broader scope of cooperation in many fields.
