TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pertamina New and Renewable Energy, or Pertamina NRE, announced the launch of the first solar power project with 197 megawatt peak (MWp) capacity in the Philippines' Batangas. "The solar power is ready to supply clean power for 158,300 households," said Pertamina NRE CEO John Anis, in a written statement on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
The solar power plant, which has the support of a 329 megawatt hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS), is built in two locations in Batangas, the Philippines. The Lumbangan plant has a capacity of 125 MWp, while the Luntal plant has 72 MWp.
John said the BESS will supply clean electricity without a break, for 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The Batangas solar power plant is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by up to 265,933 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2e) per year.
Meanwhile, the first baseload solar power plant in the Philippines is a project carried out by Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) as a Pertamina NRE affiliate. "As a shareholder of CREC, we highly appreciate this achievement, as it strengthens Pertamina NRE's renewable energy portfolio," said John.
John said that the construction of this solar farm is the beginning of CREC's target to add 1 GW of capacity per year over the next five years.
Meanwhile, CREC recorded revenue of US$134 million in the first half of 2025. John stated that CREC's net profit reached US$32 million, growing by 38 percent in that period.
Meanwhile, Pertamina's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, hopes that the company can lead the energy transition in the Southeast Asia region. "This is in line with Pertamina's focus on developing renewable energy," he said.
