TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nintendo has announced the opening of pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States starting April 24, 2025. This pre-order period was delayed due to new tariff policies from the Trump administration.
Originally scheduled for April 9, 2025, the pre-order date was postponed to assess the potential impact of the ongoing tariff war and market conditions. However, the official launch date for the Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.
"We apologize for the retail pre-order delay, and hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our customers may be experiencing." Nintendo stated in its announcement, as reported by The Verge on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
Nintendo also confirmed that the price of the Switch 2 will remain at US$449.99, or around Rp7.5 million, despite concerns that the new tariff policies could cause an increase in console prices.
However, prices for Switch 2 accessories have risen. The Joy-Con controllers will now cost US$94.99 (about Rp1.6 million), the Pro Controller is priced at US$84.99 (Rp1.4 million), and the Switch 2 camera will be priced at US$54.99 (approximately Rp900,000).
With the pre-order period starting on April 24, customers in Canada can also pre-order the Switch 2 on the same date, following the announcement of the pre-order delay in that country. This decision was made to align the pre-order timing between the U.S. and Canada.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be a significant upgrade from its predecessor, featuring a larger 7.9-inch LCD screen and larger Joy-Con controllers. Additionally, Nintendo will introduce a new game, Donkey Kong Bananza, scheduled for release on July 17, 2025.
