TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the Malaysian government has allocated 100 million Ringgit (Rp384 billion) for humanitarian aid in Gaza.

The announcement was made by PM Anwar during a joint prayer event for Gaza titled "Malaysian Gathering and Salawat with Gaza" at Dataran Merdeka Square, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday evening, as reported by Antara.

"Two years ago, we approved RM100 million in funds. Tonight, I announce the government is channeling another RM100 million as a start," said Anwar.

He called on the people and wealthy merchant companies (conglomerates) to participate in the assistance.

He emphasized that, as an independent and peaceful nation, Malaysia must ensure the security and freedom of people in other countries, including those in Palestine.

During the event, PM Anwar expressed his confidence that Palestine will achieve independence.

This confidence stems from achieving independence through struggle, a feat that Malaysia and other countries, including Indonesia, have accomplished in the past.

Thousands of Malaysian and foreign supporters of Palestine gathered and prayed together for Gaza during an event titled "Malaysian Gathering and Salawat with Gaza" at Dataran Merdeka Square, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday evening.

The event included recitation of salawat and the declaration of Sumud Nusantara, condemning the killing of children in Gaza and attacks on hospitals in Palestine.

The event also featured a bazaar with products from micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, as well as Islamic and Palestinian-themed products. The proceeds from the bazaar will be donated to the people of Palestine.

Israel has killed more than 62,600 Palestinian residents in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is now facing a famine crisis.
