TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) directly monitored the condition of students affected by the explosion at SMAN 72 Jakarta high school. KPAI Chairperson, Margaret Aliyatul Maimunah, stated that counseling services for the students had commenced since Monday, November 10, 2025, and were attended by all students, including those still receiving treatment in hospitals.
"Psychological assistance has been ongoing since Monday and is attended by all students, including those who are hospitalized," said Margaret to Tempo on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Margaret explained that KPAI also visited several hospitals where the victims were being treated, such as RS Pertamina Jaya, RS Yarsi, and RS Islam Cempaka Putih. As a result of the visits, the number of victims being treated at RS Yarsi increased from 14 to 17 people.
She added that psychological support is not only provided to students, but also to parents and teachers. Currently, the support activities are being conducted online while waiting for the school situation to become conducive again. "When it becomes possible, the assistance will be provided in person," Margaret said.
The explosion at SMAN 72 Jakarta school occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025, around 12:30 PM, while the students and teachers were performing Friday prayers in the school's prayer room located in the Kompleks Kodamar, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
The explosion occurred twice. The first explosion took place in the third floor prayer room, followed by a second explosion a few minutes later in the rear area of the cafeteria. The incident resulted in 96 injuries, including the alleged perpetrator.
The police suspect that the explosion was planned by a student of the school. The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, stated that the alleged perpetrator is currently in the custody of the Indonesian National Police. Authorities are still investigating the identity, environment, and motive of the perpetrator in assembling and detonating explosives at the school.
"We are still investigating the motive of the person involved in assembling and carrying out the action. We will explain everything after the investigation and further examination are completed," said Sigit at the Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, on Friday, November 7, 2025.
