TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Aceh Regional Police installed Starlink devices to provide free internet access for people affected by the floods and landslides. After around five days of being disconnected from the internet, residents were able to reconnect with their families.
"The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division of the Aceh Regional Police went directly to the disaster area to ensure that emergency communication access could be restored as soon as possible," said the Head of Public Relations of the Aceh Regional Police, Commissioner Joko Krisdiyanto, in a written statement on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
The Aceh Regional Police has installed two Starlink devices in Aceh Province. One unit is operated in Tingkeum Village, Kuta Blang District, Bireuen Regency, by the Aceh Regional Police's ICT Division personnel. The Starlink internet access was already active and immediately used by the residents to communicate with their families, who were previously unreachable due to the disruption of communication services.
"Thank God, the people can now contact their families after four days without signal," said Joko.
Aside from Tingkeum Village, the Aceh Regional Police also installed a Starlink device at the Jagong Jeget Police Sector, which is currently operating at the Aceh Tengah Police Resort. Joko stated that this service can be used by the community alternately to contact their families. He emphasized that the Starlink WiFi access will continue to be operated until the communication network in the affected areas is fully restored.
