TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo visited the students who were victims of the explosion at SMAN 72 high school in Jakarta, Indonesia. The victims are currently receiving treatment at several different hospitals.
Sigit mentioned that there are still dozens of students being treated for injuries from the incident. "Out of 96 victims, about 29 students are still undergoing treatment," said Sigit in a written statement on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
He detailed that 14 students are being treated at Rumah Sakit Islam Cikini, 14 at Rumah Sakit Yarsi, and one at Rumah Sakit Pertamina. "The rest have been allowed to go home and are undergoing outpatient treatment," he said.
To help the mental recovery of the students, the police plan to build a trauma healing center in the environment of SMAN 72 high school. "Our joint task is to ensure that they can recover mentally and return to normal activities," said Sigit.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) ensured that the teaching and learning activities at SMAN 72 school will be temporarily conducted online. "We want the students to focus first on psychosocial support," said KPAI Commissioner Diyah Puspitarini at Rumah Sakit Islam Jakarta on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
Diyah explained that this policy aims to restore the students' mental readiness before returning to face-to-face learning at school. "That is the most important thing right now," she said.
Psychological support is also being provided to the teachers who were also victims. Out of 42 teachers at SMAN 72 school, 17 teachers have received psychological support, while the rest will soon follow. "All teachers need psychological support to be able to return to teaching calmly," said Diyah.
The explosion at SMAN 72 school occurred during the Friday prayer sermon on Friday, November 7, 2025, around 12:15 PM local time. Two explosions occurred sequentially, first in the school hall, then at the back door.
Several eyewitnesses mentioned that a twelfth-grade student was found lying with a toy weapon nearby. The police also found a modified beverage can with a fuse and a small remote at the scene of the incident.
