TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Ragunan Zoo extends operational hours to 10:00 p.m. local time every Saturday night starting today, October 11, 2025, through the Night at the Ragunan Zoo program.
The Head of Ragunan Zoo, Endah Rumiyati, said they have conducted thorough simulations and studies regarding the operational and technical aspects of opening the zoo at night.
Endah remarked, "For visitors interested in viewing nocturnal animals (active at night), there is an e-car rental service available for Rp250,000 per hour, accommodating up to five people," as mentioned in the press release on Friday, October 10, 2025.
She added that visitors will be taken on a tour to several nocturnal animal enclosures, including those of small mammals, tigers, terrarium animals, and hippos. "At these locations, there will be animal feeding demonstrations and educational sessions conducted by zookeepers following predetermined schedules," Endah explained.
The Ragunan Zoo management has selected animals that are naturally active at night to ensure that this activity does not disrupt the animals' well-being. Endah assured that the welfare and tranquility of the animals on display are carefully maintained and will not be disturbed by visitor activities.
Supporting Facilities for Nighttime Operations at The Ragunan Zoo
To support the nighttime operations, the management has prepared various infrastructural facilities, including road lighting, illumination in the animal closures, and nighttime picnic spots. "The lighting system is designed in a way that does not disturb the natural behavior of the animals," Endah emphasized.
Additionally, security personnel and field guides will be on duty to monitor visitor activities throughout the operational hours.
"For visitors who wish to enjoy the evening ambiance of Ragunan more comfortably, we provide an e-car service for Rp250,000 for five people per hour. With the e-car, visitors can tour around while enjoying the beauty of the nighttime at Ragunan Zoo," she added.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung mentioned that the public are welcome to enhoy leisure activities at Ragunan Zoo at night during the pilot phase of the operations. "Including sports activities at Ragunan, because they are among the most complete," stated Pramono at the Jakarta City Hall on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
