Israel to Send Delegation to Qatar for Gaza Ceasefire Talks

7 hours ago 10

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Israeli government is prepared to send a negotiation team to Doha, Qatar, to discuss a ceasefire plan in Gaza, Palestine.

The announcement came from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office on Saturday, July 5, 2025, as Israeli airstrikes continued, killing at least 78 Palestinians within the past 24 hours.

Netanyahu’s office said the delegation would depart for Doha on Sunday after the prime minister instructed negotiators to accept the invitation for intensive discussions, according to Al Jazeera.

However, Israel has rejected Hamas' proposed amendments to the ceasefire plan drafted by Qatar.

"The changes Hamas is requesting to make to the Qatari proposal were delivered to us last night and are unacceptable to Israel," the statement said.

Hamas Responds Positively

Hamas, in contrast, has welcomed the ceasefire proposal brokered by the United States. In a statement released on Friday night, July 4, the group signaled a willingness to return to the negotiation table.

As reported by Politico, Hamas said it is “seriously ready to enter immediately into a round of negotiations” for a new ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The group described its stance on the proposal as positive.

The plan outlines a 60-day halt in hostilities. If approved, the ceasefire would pause Israeli military operations in Gaza, initiate prisoner exchanges, and allow greater delivery of humanitarian aid.

Fighting Continues

Despite the renewed diplomatic efforts, Israeli military operations in Gaza have intensified. Residents on the outskirts of Gaza City have been ordered to evacuate, while airstrikes and ground assaults in the area have persisted throughout the week.

Since the war began in October 2023, at least 57,338 Palestinians have been killed and 135,957 injured. Israeli bombardments have caused widespread destruction across the Gaza Strip, leading to a dire humanitarian crisis and severe food shortages.

Upcoming Netanyahu-Trump Meeting

U.S. President Donald Trump has said a ceasefire agreement could be finalized as early as next week. Netanyahu is scheduled to visit Washington on Monday, July 7, to meet with Trump and discuss the terms of the deal.

Trump earlier claimed that Israel had accepted the ceasefire plan, but no official confirmation has come from the Israeli side. Hamas has also not yet confirmed whether it will agree to all conditions outlined in the proposal.
