TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government-owned television building of Iran, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), was struck by Israel on Monday night, June 16, 2025, immediately disrupting the live broadcast.
An explosion occurred during a live program, just as the presenter was condemning Israel. He was seen leaving the broadcast shortly afterward, according to Iranian media outlets that circulated footage of the incident, including Barron's.
Earlier, NBC News reported that the Israeli military (IDF) had issued an evacuation order for residents of Block 3 in northern Tehran, the capital of Iran.
"In the coming hours, the IDF will operate in the area, in line with its actions in recent days across Tehran, to attack military facilities belonging to the Iranian regime," said IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee on X.
Block 3 is home to several key sites, including the National Library and Archives of Iran and the IRIB television headquarters.
The exchange of attacks between Israel and Iran has entered a new phase as the conflict between the two heavily armed nations reached its fourth day on Monday.
Iranian state media reported that at least 224 people have been killed in Iran since Israeli strikes began on Friday. Meanwhile, Iran's retaliatory attacks have left at least 24 people dead in Israel.
