TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto is expected to meet with United States President Donald Trump in the near future, according to Foreign Minister Sugiono.
The high-level meeting is likely to take place in the United States, either in Washington D.C. or at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
“One of the main agendas is the signing of the tariff agreement between Indonesia and the United States,” Sugiono said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
However, the meeting has not yet been scheduled, as both leaders’ calendars are being coordinated. Sugiono emphasized that the timing of the visit depends on aligning the schedules of Prabowo and Trump.
In addition to the trade agreement, the two leaders are expected to discuss Indonesia’s role in the Board of Peace, an initiative launched by Trump. Prabowo signed the pact at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, on January 22, 2026, and discussions on its implementation are ongoing.
Sugiono said Indonesia is coordinating closely with other Muslim-majority countries in the Board of Peace, which includes Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. “We are consulting and coordinating with this group of eight countries,” he added.
The Indonesia-US trade negotiations, originally scheduled for January, have been postponed to February 2026 to coincide with the planned meeting between the two presidents.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the technical preparations for the tariff agreement are complete, and the signing is simply awaiting the formal heads-of-state meeting.
“The finalization depends on the alignment of both leaders’ schedules. Both leaders also met recently in Davos,” Airlangga said after the Central Inflation Control Team Coordination Meeting in Jakarta on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Despite the delay, Airlangga assured that the negotiations are progressing smoothly. “It’s just a matter of scheduling,” he said, signaling that no significant obstacles remain for the trade deal.
