TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov to the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, April 15. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, who accompanied the President, said the meeting focused on bilateral cooperation to be formalized through memoranda of understanding (MoUs).

One of Russia’s proposals was to increase direct flights to Moscow to enhance connectivity with Indonesia.

"They asked which destinations would be suitable for direct flights from Moscow," Airlangga said at the Presidential Palace.

In addition, Russia proposed a streamlined financial system to facilitate tourism to Indonesia, with both countries aiming to establish a mutually beneficial mechanism.

The talks also covered investment opportunities and the progress of the Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (I-EAEU FTA). Airlangga noted that Russia hopes to finalize the agreement’s terms by June 2025, when President Prabowo is scheduled to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"We aim to complete all aspects of the Eurasian negotiations during the President’s visit to St. Petersburg," Airlangga said.

Airlangga added that negotiations for the free trade agreement between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)—comprising Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia—are nearly complete.

"The Eurasian FTA is almost finalized. We are likely one round away from concluding it, similar to our progress with the European Union," he said following the Russia–Indonesia business forum at the Raffles Hotel in Central Jakarta on Monday, April 14.

Airlangga said that President Prabowo has instructed that the FTA be completed in the first half of 2025, to be followed by a detailed legal review. Legal scrubbing is more intricate and time-consuming," he explained.

Key discussion points in the FTA include tariff and non-tariff barriers, as well as investment guarantees.

Airlangga previously confirmed that President Prabowo will visit Russia in June 2025 to advance talks on the EAEU FTA, reaffirming Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening trade ties with the five-nation bloc.
