TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia announced on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, that Indonesia's oil lifting had reached 608 thousand barrels per day (bpd), surpassing the State Budget target of 605 thousand bpd.
“Today, I just left the office and saw on the online monitor that our lifting reached 608 thousand barrels,” said Bahlil at the Energi Mineral Festival in Jakarta. However, he noted that this figure does not represent the cumulative oil lifting for July 2025.
Bahlil emphasized that this marks the first time Indonesia has met the oil lifting target set in the State Budget. He called for continued support to ensure the oil lifting target for 2025 is fully achieved.
He outlined several challenges Indonesia faces in reaching the target, including aging oil wells, which have led to declining production. Additionally, there are 4,495 idle wells, and the oil and gas sector requires high-risk investments and substantial capital.
“But if we look at the efforts we’ve made with the Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS) and our business partners, there’s a glimmer of hope that we can improve lifting and reach the target,” Bahlil said.
Earlier, the Head of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), Djoko Siswanto, reported that oil lifting in the first half of 2025 stood at 578 thousand bpd, or 95.5 percent of the annual target.
Djoko added that the June 2025 oil lifting figure was higher than in June 2024, when it reached 576.1 thousand bpd. He expressed optimism that by December 2025, the annual target of 605 thousand bpd could be achieved.
Meanwhile, the total oil and gas lifting in June 2025 reached 1.557 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOEPD), or 96.7 percent of the 2025 State Budget target of 1.610 million BOEPD.
