TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Awalil Rizky, Bright Institute's senior economist, highlighted the slight increase in the Job Availability Index to 101.6 in April 2025 from 100.3 in March 2025. The Job Availability Index is one of the components in the Present Economic Condition Index (IKE) that reflects consumers' assessment of the current conditions compared to six months ago.
Awalil argued that despite the increase in the Job Availability Index, its position remains low. The index at 100.3 in March 2025 is the lowest from January 2023 to April 2025. "Thus, it seems that people are increasingly finding it difficult to find jobs," said Awalil in a written statement quoted on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
The public's concerns about job availability in the next six months are also reflected through the Expectation Index of Job Availability, which decreased from 125.9 in March 2025 to 123.5 in April 2025. "The index still looks very optimistic, but the value is the lowest since October 2021," said Awalil.
The decrease in the Expectation Index of Job Availability is the main factor in the declining Consumer Expectation Index (IEK). The IEK decreased from 131.7 in March 2025 to 129.8 this month. Meanwhile, the IKE in April 2025 was 113.7, an increase from the previous month's 110.6. IEK and IKE are the two main components in the Consumer Confidence Index.
Bank Indonesia's survey revealed that the Consumer Confidence Index in April 2025 was 121.7. This figure slightly increased from the index of the previous month, which was 121.1. Ramdan Denny Prakoso, Director of the Communication Department of Bank Indonesia, assessed that the figure indicates that consumer confidence remains maintained.
"The maintenance of consumer confidence in April 2025 is supported by the Present Economic Condition Index (IKE) and the Consumer Expectation Index (IEK)," said Ramdan in an official statement quoted on Sunday, May 11, 2025. The IKE in April 2025 was 113.7, an increase from the previous month's 110.6. Meanwhile, the IEK decreased from 131.7 in March 2025 to 129.8 this month.
