TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the national average price of commercial chicken eggs increased by 0.32 percent in the second week of November 2025 compared to October. One of the primary causes cited for this inflation is the high demand for eggs as a main menu item for the government's Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program.
BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that the average price of commercial chicken eggs currently exceeds the Highest Reference Buying Price (HAP) limit. "Nationally, the average price of commercial chicken eggs has increased by 0.32 percent compared to October 2025, and this is already above the HAP limit," she said during an inflation control coordination meeting, monitored via the Ministry of Home Affairs' YouTube channel on Monday, November 17, 2025.
The HAP for commercial chicken eggs is set at Rp30,000 per kilogram. Meanwhile, the average price of eggs by the second week of November reached Rp31,646 per kilogram, an increase from the average October price of Rp31,546.
Demand Surge and Supply Studies
Amalia highlighted the surge in demand from the nutritious meal program as a key driver: "This is interesting because the increase in the price of commercial chicken eggs is also due to the increasing demand for commercial chicken eggs as one of the components for the MBG menu," she explained.
She added that distribution is also a factor, emphasizing that demand must be balanced with market stock availability. BPS noted the need for further study regarding the relationship between the number of Nutritional Fulfillment Service Points (SPPG), or kitchen units, in various regencies/cities and the Price Development Index (IPH) of commercial chicken eggs.
As of the second week of November 2025, several regencies exhibit substantial shifts in the IPH of commercial chicken eggs. Among them, Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan, saw an 8.3 percent IPH change and operates 26 SPPGs. Pringsewu Regency, Lampung, registered an 8.1 percent IPH increase and has 37 SPPGs. Furthermore, Jombang Regency, which operates 66 SPPGs, experienced a 6.38 percent change in the IPH of commercial chicken eggs.
Nevertheless, the BPS head suggested that this condition presents a good business opportunity. Local governments should encourage larger supply provision by promoting local entrepreneurs and breeders.
BPS data indicate that the IPH of commercial chicken eggs has increased in 43.6 percent of areas across Indonesia. Currently, 157 regencies and cities are experiencing a price increase. The highest prices were recorded in the Papua Highlands, with Mamberamo Tengah Regency reaching Rp100,000 per kilogram. This was followed by Puncak Jaya Regency and Intan Jaya Regency, each at Rp90,000 per kilogram. The lowest reported price is Rp23,320 per kilogram.
