TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Indonesian Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, received a courtesy visit from the Romanian Ambassador to Indonesia, Dan Adrian Balanescu, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Indonesia and Romania are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations this year.
According to the ministry's official release, Sugiono and Balanescu appreciate the well-established diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Romania. They believe these relationships can establish a solid foundation for promoting economic cooperation and enhancing the well-being of people in both countries.
Sugiono highlighted substantial opportunities for increasing trade in Indonesia's and Romania's leading products, including exporting agricultural products such as palm oil and paper from Indonesia to Romania. Cooperation in food products was also a focal point of the discussion due to the strategic value of the agricultural trade community, which is important for both countries.
In the defense sector, Romanian defense companies are scheduled to attend the Indo Defense Exhibition in Jakarta from June 11 to 14, 2025.
Furthermore, Sugiono and Balanescu emphasized the increased number of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) and Romania's demand for workers in the hospitality sector.
Both governments support enhancing social-cultural cooperation initiatives, including university partnerships to promote people-to-people relations between Indonesia and Romania.
