TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said Indonesia has completed most of its economic and trade cooperation frameworks with several international partners, underscoring the country’s growing role in regional and global markets.

Speaking at the Indonesia Economic Summit in Jakarta, Airlangga said Indonesia has finalized major agreements with Canada through the Indonesia–Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA-CEPA), advanced negotiations with the European Union under the Indonesia–EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), and concluded a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Airlangga also highlighted President Prabowo Subianto’s active role in geopolitics, which he said has contributed to regional stability.

“I think our President has been very active in geopolitics,” Airlangga said at the Shangri-La Hotel in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

According to Airlangga, Prabowo’s diplomatic stance has helped ASEAN maintain peace and stability, supporting its position as one of the world’s fastest-growing economic regions.

Airlangga expressed appreciation to several countries attending the forum, including Australia. He noted that the Australian prime minister met President Prabowo last December and said Australia currently has its largest investment program in Jakarta.

He also pointed to Japan’s ASEAN Zero Emission Community initiative, which allocates US$500 million for renewable energy development.

In addition, Japan, together with other G20 countries, is preparing around US$21.4 billion in financing for Indonesia. Of that amount, Indonesia has so far utilized approximately US$3.5 billion, with the remaining funds already in the investment pipeline.

On regional cooperation, Airlangga said Indonesia and Singapore are jointly developing a special economic zone and are discussing plans to export green energy to Singapore. The two countries are also collaborating on digital human resource development.

Indonesia has also strengthened ties with the United Kingdom, particularly in higher education. Airlangga said President Prabowo plans to establish 10 new universities focusing on science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine.

Universities affiliated with the UK’s Russell Group, including the University of Cambridge, King’s College London, and Imperial College London, have expressed interest in supporting Indonesia’s education development. The United Kingdom is also preparing to sign a trade agreement with Indonesia under the IEU-CEPA framework.

Domestically, Airlangga said several economic indicators show positive trends. Indonesia’s Purchasing Managers’ Index stood at 52.6 in January, signaling expansion and marking six consecutive months in expansionary territory. Consumer confidence also rose to 123.5.

Inflation this year is projected at between 3.53 and 3.55 percent, influenced by a low base in the final quarter of last year following the government’s 50 percent electricity subsidy, Airlangga said.

Indonesia’s trade balance has recorded a surplus for 68 consecutive months. Foreign exchange reserves at Bank Indonesia stand at around US$142 billion, which is sufficient to cover more than six months of imports.

Airlangga added that the government has announced capital market reforms focusing on four pillars, namely liquidity, transparency, governance, and law enforcement.
