TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia has fully paid its membership contributions to the United Nations (UN), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

“What we can convey from Indonesia is that we have fulfilled our obligation; our contribution to the UN has been fully paid,” said the ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang in Jakarta, as reported by Antara.

Yvonne added that Indonesia is now encouraging other UN member states to meet their financial obligations.

The statement follows a letter sent by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on January 28 to member countries, including Indonesia, highlighting the organization’s financial challenges.

“The letter was quite detailed, urging UN member countries that have not yet paid their contributions to assist in addressing the UN’s financial situation,” Yvonne said.

On January 30, reports cited Guterres warning about the UN’s growing financial strain, noting that some member states had not fulfilled their contributions.

UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson Farhan Haq explained that the organization “does not have sufficient cash and liquidity reserves to continue functioning as in previous years.”

Indonesia’s confirmation comes amid broader calls for member countries to support the UN in maintaining operational stability and ensuring the continuation of its global programs.
