TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Meta's Threads social media platform has reached 500 million monthly active users. This figure represents an increase of roughly 100 million users since August of last year.

Threads' growth is widely believed to be anchored by its integration with Instagram, which allows users to transition to the platform far more seamlessly than competing services.

According to the company, Threads initially set out to capture users fleeing Twitter following its acquisition by Elon Musk. "But it's now all grown up, it seems," GSM Arena reported on June 16, 2026.

To mark this milestone, Meta announced that its Communities feature is officially exiting beta. The company has also introduced a dedicated icon for each community, a Communities Hub in the main menu, and a Community Progress tracker that lets users monitor a topic's trajectory toward achieving full community status.

Meta will also grant community champion status to a broader base of users. Additionally, community tags in local languages are now available for users in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.

In the coming weeks, the Live Chats feature will roll out to a wider range of communities. This feature will include the ability to quote specific conversation moments directly onto a user's timeline.

Threads is also introducing a new feature dubbed Your Algo. This complements the existing Dear Algo feature, which helps users manage the types of content they wish to see more or less frequently on their feeds.

Through Your Algo, users can customize preferences for specific topics and set the duration for these adjustments to one, three, or seven days. Both Dear Algo and Your Algo configurations can be managed via a single, integrated control center. However, Meta stated that the Your Algo feature will initially only roll out to users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
