TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israel stated that the Palestinian militant group, Hamas, has handed over all 20 hostages and prisoners of war who are still alive in the first stage of the Israel-Gaza ceasefire agreement.
The first group, consisting of seven hostages released on Monday, October 13, 2025, was handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which then transferred them to the Israeli forces (IDF) and the Israeli internal security agency Shin Bet in Gaza.
According to the hostage family forum, as reported by ABC News, those released in the first wave were: Eitan Mor, Gali and Ziv Berman, Matan Engerst, Omri Miran, Guy Gilbo, a Dalal, and Alon Ohel.
The second group of 13 hostages was released two hours later by Hamas, and the IDF confirmed that they had been transferred to the ICRC in Gaza.
As reported by Al Jazeera, they consisted of Elkana Bohbot, Rom Braslavski, Nimrod Cohen, Ariel Cunio, David Cunio, Evyatar David, Maxim Herkin, Eitan Horn, Segev Kalfon, Bar Kupershtein, Yosef Haim Ohana, Avinatan Or, and Matan Zangauke.
There were 48 hostages and Israeli soldiers detained, including 20 who were still alive.
According to the IDF, the hostages were escorted by the IDF's elite unit and Shin Bet back to Israel, where they would undergo medical evaluation and meet their families.
The families and friends of the hostages cheered with joy as Israeli TV channels announced that the hostages were in the hands of the Red Cross.
Tens of thousands of Israelis watched the transfer in public screenings across the country, with a major event held in Tel Aviv.
The mother of the released hostage, Matan Zangauker, was seen speaking to her son in a video recording shared by Israeli media shortly after.
"Matan, you're coming home. The war is over. I love you, I'm waiting for you," she said. "Thank God, the war is over."
The release of the hostages is the first stage of the ceasefire agreement with Israel, which will also release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.
All 1,966 scheduled released Palestinian prisoners boarded buses, according to officials involved in the operation.
Two hundred fifty of them are expected to be released to the West Bank, Jerusalem, and abroad.
The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, the largest step towards ending the two-year war, aims to pave the way for permanent peace under the 20-point plan drafted by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who is scheduled to arrive in Israel shortly after the release.
The conflict was triggered by Hamas' attack on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people in Israel and took 251 hostages.
The Israeli genocide has since destroyed Gaza, killing more than 67,800 Palestinian citizens, mostly women and children.
