TEMPO.COJakarta - A total of five nagaris (villages) in Palembayan Sub-district, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, Indonesia, are still isolated after being hit by flash floods and landslides. It is estimated that there are still dozens of landslide points that need to be cleared to open access roads.

The five nagaris are Nagari IV Kota, Nagari Baringin, Nagari Sungai Puar, Nagari Sipinang, and some parts of Nagari III Koto Silungkang. The disaster post noted that there are 18,000 residents in the area.

"In Nagari III Koto Silungkak, there are still 17 landslide points that have buried the road. There are also several bridges that are broken," said Nasril, from the Disaster Alert Group of Nagari III Koto Silungkang, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

Consecutive landslides have occurred since Monday, November 24, 2025, after heavy rain poured down all day. The landslides closed the Lubuk Basung - Bukittinggi Provincial road and access to several villages.

Eight days after the incident, only 11 landslide points have been cleared. The remains of the landslides still leave wet mud that makes the road slippery. On Tuesday afternoon, heavy equipment was cleaning up the mud in Jorong Silungkang.

Nasril mentioned that the clearance of the landslides is hindered by operational costs. "As for our consumption and fuel, we're facing difficulties. Right now, the fuel supply has run out," he said.

Currently, Nasril mentioned that there are still two isolated clans, Jorong Silungkak and Tamtaman. The residents there cannot leave and need food aid. Meanwhile, in Jorong Silungkang, Basri Budiman, along with other youths, must fetch aid from neighboring villages. The aid is then carried on foot.

"We walk about 5 kilometers to the neighboring villages. We bring the aid to a communal kitchen to be processed into meals that are then distributed to residents," he said.

He said that Jorong Silungkang is located in a valley between hills. Since heavy rain at the end of November, the area has been declared a red zone for landslides. "We have already urged the residents to evacuate because the current conditions are prone to landslides," he said.

Separately, Agam Police Chief AKBP Muari mentioned that they have coordinated with the regency government to add heavy equipment to expedite the clearance of landslide materials. He mentioned that aside from landslides, there are also collapsed roads that need to be rebuilt. They cannot yet determine when the access roads can be reopened.

"The current obstacle is the shortage of heavy equipment to open access roads, because right now there are only two heavy equipment pieces," he said.
