TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Five national scientists specializing in the basic sciences, philosophy, religion, and culture have received the 2025 Habibie Prize from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). Edy Giri Rachman Putra, Deputy of Human Resources for Science and Technology at BRIN, stated that the 26th Habibie Prize ceremony also commemorates National Technology Awakening Day this year. The government continues to uphold the tradition of honoring researchers in Indonesia.
"Their ideas, dedication, and exemplary behavior continue to inspire various generations of Indonesian scientists to this day," he said in a speech at the BJ Habibie Building, Jakarta, on Monday, November 10, 2025.
The Habibie Prize is the highest honor that the state gives to scientists and experts who dedicate their work and research to the nation. According to Edy, this award serves as a means to strengthen Indonesia's research and innovation ecosystem, as well as foster a scientific spirit among the younger generation.
This year, the Habibie Prize was awarded to five national scientists from five fields of study. The award for the Basic Science field was given to Dr. rer. nat. Rino Rakhmata Mukti, S.Si, M.Sc., for the development of material chemistry research oriented towards sustainable solutions in energy and the environment.
In the field of Engineering, the award was received by Anuraga Jayanegara, who researched feed nutrition and sustainable farming systems based on livestock engineering. The Habibie Prize recipient in the field of Medicine and Biotechnology is R. Tedjo Sasmono, for molecular biotechnology research and the development of infectious disease diagnosis systems in Indonesia.
Jimly Asshiddiqie, former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, also received an award in the field of social sciences, economics, politics, and law for developing a legal system and state institutions that adapt to changing times. And last, Muhammad Quraish Shihab received the award in the field of philosophy, religion, and culture for his dedication to strengthening the dialogue between science and religion and developing moderate and inclusive Islamic thought.
