First Day of Hajj Pilgrimage: 7,514 Pilgrims Depart from Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Deputy of Character Strengthening and National Identity of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK), Warsito, representing the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, released the departure of the first group of Hajj pilgrims from Embarkasi Jakarta - Pondok Gede on Thursday night, May 1, 2025.

According to the Kemenko PMK page, this first group consisted of 393 pilgrims scheduled to depart for Medina, Saudi Arabia, using Garuda Indonesia airline on early Friday, May 2, around 01:00 WIB (Western Indonesia Time).

Nationally, on the first day of the hajj pilgrimage, falling on Friday, May 2, a total of 7,514 pilgrims from 19 groups departed from various embarkation points across Indonesia.

In his address, Deputy Warsito advised the pilgrims to always maintain good behavior and character during the pilgrimage, considering that they are representing the good name of Indonesia on the international stage. He also prayed for a smooth pilgrimage journey and for all pilgrims to return to the homeland safely, and to be granted the title of Hajj Mabrur.

As cited from the Ministry of Religious Affairs page, the operational period for the departure and return of hajj pilgrims will take place for 30 days, while the average duration of Indonesian hajj pilgrims' stay in Saudi Arabia reaches 41 days.

The government, together with the House of Representatives, has approved the amount of the Hajj Implementation Cost (BPIH) for the year 1446 H/2025 AD, with an average of Rp89,410,258.79. From this amount, the average Travel Cost of the Hajj (Bipih) borne by pilgrims is Rp55,431,750.78.

This agreement will be submitted to the President of the Republic of Indonesia to be determined through a Presidential Decree regarding the BPIH 2025, which will be the basis for the settlement of Bipih by the pilgrims.

This year, Indonesia has obtained a total hajj quota of 221,000 people. The quota includes 201,063 regular pilgrims, 1,572 regional hajj officers, 685 guides from the Hajj and Umrah Guidance Group (KBIHU), and 17,680 special hajj pilgrims.
