TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The latest observation from the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center (TCWC) Jakarta shows that the 91S cyclone seed has developed into Tropical Cyclone Jenna. The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the storm's current position is around the southwestern Indian Ocean, near Lampung.
"Tropical Cyclone Jenna has the potential to escalate into a category three cyclone and move southwest away from Indonesian territory in the next 24 hours," reads the BMKG review on Monday evening, January 5, 2025.
Referring to the BMKG report, the maximum wind speed of Tropical Cyclone Jenna reaches 50 knots or about 95 kilometers per hour, with a minimum air pressure of 990 hPa.
This storm will indirectly affect extreme weather conditions and waters in Indonesian territory in the next 24 hours, particularly high sea waves reaching 1.25-2.5 meters in the waters west of the Mentawai Islands to Lampung.
The potential for moderate sea waves is also present in the southern part of the Sunda Strait, the southern waters of Java Island, the western Indian Ocean of Sumatra Island, and the southern Indian Ocean of Java Island.
