Big Bad Wolf Returns to Medan, Bringing 1 Million New Books

2 weeks ago 15

TEMPO.COJakarta - The tour of Big Bad Wolf (BBW) 2025 in Indonesia finally arrived at the final destination, which is the city of Medan, by bringing one million new books with discounts of up to 80 percent.

The Big Bad Wolf bazaar will be held at the Lower Ground of Delipark Mall from November 24th to December 7th, 2025, every day from 10:00 to 22:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time), with free admission for all visitors.

The mission of the movement is "Change the World, One Book at a Time," as Big Bad Wolf specifically targets the increase of literacy interest from an early age. This can be seen from the large collection of children's books that were brought. Out of the 1 million books on sale, 70 percent of them were children's books.

"There are many imported book retailers in Indonesia, but few provide imported children's books. Most of them focus on adult and teenage books. We want to encourage literacy from an early age," said the Country Director of Big Bad Wolf Indonesia, Marthius Wandi Budianto, in Medan, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Big Bad Wolf presents innovative books that offer interactive experiences and stimulate children's motor skills, such as sound books, touch and feel books, and pop-up books. These books fall into the category of best sellers in previous city events. Not to forget the popular fiction novels, self-development books, graphic novels, and comics from best-selling books, popular publishers, up to hardcovers in both English and Indonesian.

"These books help children learn to speak. For example, with sound books, when pressed, it can help with English language speech, assisting children in their learning. This is an event that should not be missed by readers of all ages," Wandi, his nickname, said.

Big Bad Wolf is not just an ordinary book bazaar. This year, it comes with a new concept that prioritizes comfort, easy access, and a more enjoyable shopping experience for both book lovers and new readers. Located in a strategic new location in the shopping center, visitors can enjoy easy access to books for a cooler lifestyle.

"We are bringing a festival atmosphere. Visitors can find many collections of books that they may have never seen before. In addition to unique books, our Marvel and DC comics are discounted by 80 percent. There are also many attractive prizes that visitors can win," he added.

Big Bad Wolf is committed to making books accessible to all. Why bring so many book collections at very affordable prices? Wandi said it's because Big Bad Wolf always aims to gain new readers in every city it visits. New readers can be from young children, teenagers, to productive generations. He also ensures that their books are priced well below retail value.

"For example, a Harry Potter book priced at Rp120,000, in other retailers is rarely, almost impossible. The same goes for special edition book collections, which can be obtained here for less than Rp 1 million. The goal is for books to be accessible to all levels of society. So, there's no more reason not to buy books," he said.

Wandi hopes the bazaar has a positive impact on the literacy rate of the people in Medan. According to him, every city has its own literacy spirit, and Medan is extraordinary in enthusiasm and curiosity. BBW Medan 2025 aims to be a space for celebrating literacy, a place for families and communities to gather, read, and share stories, for both book lovers and new readers.

"Hopefully, you can find one, two, or three books that can inspire and change your life," he said.

The founder of Big Bad Wolf Books, Andrew Yap, shared the journey of BBW from Malaysia to 57 cities in 17 countries with the mission of instilling a love of reading and strengthening global literacy. Big Bad Wolf Books started with the ambition of making books more affordable and accessible to anyone, anywhere.

"We are thrilled to finally be back in Medan. This city is full of spirit and energy, in line with our mission to bring the joy of reading to more people. Big Bad Wolf is not just about buying books, but also about building the habit of reading to imagine, inspire, and motivate," said Andrew.

Strategic support from PT Bank Central Asia Tbk. (BCA) also comes with various special benefits for customers. Visitors can enjoy an additional discount of up to 10 percent and special promos for students who want to broaden their horizons with selected books. This promo is a form of collaboration between Big Bad Wolf Indonesia and BCA in supporting the national literacy movement.

"We are proud to be part of the literacy movement. Through this collaboration, we want to encourage more people, especially the younger generation, to make reading a daily habit. In addition to the additional discount, we provide various attractive promos to provide the best experience for visitors," said the Head of Merchant Business Functional Office Medan BCA, Agus Sumiko.
