TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated that Indonesia received 1.16 million international tourist visits in April 2025. This figure shows an increase of 18.26 percent compared to March 2025. Meanwhile, year on year, the tourist visits increased by 9.15 percent to 1.16 million visits compared to April 2024.

"The increase in the number of tourists is driven by the Easter holiday and the addition of flights from Australia to Bali, especially from Italy," said Puji Ismartini, Deputy of Distribution and Service Statistics Distribution at BPS, in a press conference at her office on Monday, June 2, 2025.

Puji added that, cumulatively, as of April 2025, the number of international tourists visiting Indonesia reached 4.33 million visits, an increase of 5.60 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.

Foreign tourist visits in April 2025 were mostly made by tourists from Malaysia (14.6 percent), Australia (12.9 percent), and China (9.1 percent).

BPS also noted that 587,315 visits, or 57.25 percent of the total flights, were made through the main entrance of Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali.

Despite the surge in international tourists, BPS revealed that there is still a significant imbalance at other main entrance areas that are also in the top three, such as Soekarno-Hatta Banten, which recorded 186,523 visits and Juanda East Java with 24,800 visits in April 2025, accounting for 20.61 percent of the total flights.

Puji stated that the positive performance of international tourist visits brings new hope for the Indonesian tourism sector. She said that, although the recovery is starting to emerge, the challenge ahead is to ensure inclusive, sustainable, and evenly distributed growth across the Indonesian archipelago.
