TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Amazon, along with teachers and students from 21 high schools in West Java, Indonesia, made history by breaking the Guinness World Record for "Most Applications Made in An On-site Generative AI (Gen AI) Event" after producing more than 10,821 unique Gen AI applications. "This Guinness World Record achievement is the result of an extraordinary accomplishment by over 2,600 students and teachers who demonstrated what can be achieved when we, as a community, think big, adopt a Day 1 culture, and leverage Cloud and Gen AI technologies together," said Jaime Valls, Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific & Japan, AWS, in a press release received by Tempo on October 17, 2025.
Valls reminded that the future of innovation and growth in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region lies in efforts to democratize access to transformative technologies, including generative AI. "AWS is committed to ensuring that more Indonesians can access Gen AI education and skills enhancement (skilling), so that we can together address some of this nation's biggest challenges and opportunities and prepare local innovators to thrive in the global digital economy," Valls said.
Amazon collaborated with Prestasi Junior Indonesia, AIkademi Foundation, and Yayasan Sagasitas Indonesia, where students and teachers in West Java delved into the creative potential of AI and its responsible use. Students demonstrated their learning outcomes by developing AI-based applications in various fields such as project management assistant, personal carbon footprint monitor, and others.
As the record-breaking efforts unfolded, high school students brought forth concept ideas for Gen AI applications that they had previously developed, such as prompts and widgets needed to create new applications. Meanwhile, teachers and volunteers materialized these ideas into applications using PartyRock, an Amazon Bedrock platform. Participants carried out this process at school and at the Amazon Think Big Space in SMK Negeri 1 Karawang on October 13, 2025. The record-breaking effort was conducted in accordance with stringent Guinness World Records verification standards, including ensuring that all applications functioned correctly, were distinct from other applications, and were verified by Guinness World Records judges.
Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, said that the students of West Java had achieved an extraordinary feat. By developing thousands of AI applications in just one day, these young innovators have demonstrated that Indonesia is ready to embrace the digital future. When we equip the younger generation with the right tools and training, there is so much they can accomplish on a global scale. "I thank Amazon Web Services for contributing to the development of digital talent in Indonesia. More than just a figure, this record proves that Indonesia will grow into a major force in the field of technology," Agus said.
Guinness World Records judge, Aynee Toorabally, stated that the success of the students and teachers in West Java in breaking today's record demonstrates Amazon's strong commitment to empowering young talent in Indonesia through technology and training that prepares them for the future. "This achievement is a tangible contribution to the advancement of the Indonesian technology sector in the future, and we congratulate all parties on this success," she said.
Amazon is strongly committed to helping the Indonesian society face the digital future, with a focus on cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Since 2017, Amazon Web Services has provided cloud computing training to over 1 million Indonesians and is now expanding these efforts into AI education. By providing accessible AI platforms, Amazon encourages students and teachers to create AI-based applications with minimal coding skills. This initiative not only introduces practical AI capabilities but also showcases career opportunities in the technology field, in line with Indonesia's digital transformation goals. Amazon's ongoing investment in education reflects the company's commitment to developing local talent and supporting Indonesia's journey to becoming a leader in new technology fields.
Diah Gustanti, the Principal of SMKN 1 Karawang, said that her team worked with Amazon to introduce technologies like generative AI to the students and provide them with opportunities to learn and develop their technological skills in a safe environment. "We are proud to be part of the Guinness world record for generative AI applications, which shows the incredible progress of students and educators after receiving training. This is a historic milestone, and we will continue to equip the next generation with the right capabilities and tools to harness technology effectively," she said.
