TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani says his scheduled meeting with President Donald Trump on Friday, November 21, 2025, is an opportunity to convey his views and advocate for the interests of New York residents.
Earlier this week, Trump told reporters he would meet with Mamdani at the White House on Friday, following a request from the Mayor-elect.
"I'm not concerned about this meeting. I view this meeting as an opportunity for me to make my case, and I’ll make that case to anyone," Mamdani told reporters as reported by Sputnik and cited by Antara.
The 34-year-old politician reiterated his readiness to work with the U.S. President on any issue, provided it benefits the people of New York. However, Mamdani also stated that he would take a firm stand against any policies detrimental to the city.
He added that if there is an agenda that harms the people of New York, he would be the first to say so.
In early November, Mamdani won the election for mayor of New York, making him the youngest mayor in the 21st century and the first Muslim to hold the position. Mamdani is known for advocating for affordable grocery stores, rent freezes in several areas of the city, and free bus fares.
