TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese tied the knot with his partner Jodie Haydon on Saturday, November 29, 2025. Albanese is the first serving prime minister of Australia to get married.
They wrote their vows and had their dog Toto serve as the ring bearer. Haydon's five-year-old niece acted as the flower girl.
Reported by Sky News, Australia's PM Anthony Albanese and Jodie Haydon were married by a civil celebrant in an intimate ceremony at his official residence in the capital, Canberra, on Saturday. The wedding was attended by 60 guests, including cabinet ministers, at the Saturday afternoon ceremony.
"We are absolutely thrilled to share our love and commitment to spend our futures together in front of our families and closest friends," said the newlyweds.
They shared photos in a social media post. Albanese captioned it, "I love you, Jodie."
Anthony Albanese, aged 62, has been divorced from his previous wife and has an adult son. He is the first prime minister to marry while in office in Australia's 124-year history.
He proposed to Haydon, 46, a finance industry worker, on Valentine's Day last year, after meeting her at a business event in Melbourne in 2020.
Albanese's Labor Party won the last election held in May for his second three-year term. The couple initially planned for a large-scale wedding before the election. The plan was postponed as party strategists were concerned that a lavish ceremony during a cost-of-living crisis could harm the government's re-election prospects.
The prime minister's office stated that the couple will honeymoon in Australia from Monday to the following Friday. All expenses will be privately covered by the couple.
