TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesians hoping to attend the country's 81st Independence Day ceremony at the Merdeka Palace on August 17, 2026, should prepare in advance as public registration is expected to open online with limited seats available.
The annual Independence Day ceremony at the Merdeka Palace is one of Indonesia's most sought-after public events. Due to overwhelming demand, registration often turns into a "ticket war," with available slots filling up within minutes.
Although the government has yet to announce the official registration date, the process is expected to follow previous years through the Pandang Istana online platform shortly before the ceremony.
This year, the government is preparing 8,100 seats for members of the public to attend either the Proclamation Ceremony in the morning or the Flag Lowering Ceremony in the afternoon at the Presidential Palace.
How to Register
Once registration opens, applicants will need to complete an online form through the official Pandang Istana website (the 2026 registration portal has not yet opened).
To speed up the process, prospective attendees are advised to prepare the following documents and information beforehand:
Indonesian identity card (KTP)
National Identification Number (NIK)
Active mobile phone number
Active email address
A recent photograph
Any additional documents required by organizers
Applicants should ensure that all personal information matches their official identification, as inaccurate data could delay or invalidate the verification process.
During previous registration periods, applicants were also asked to choose whether they wished to attend the morning flag-raising ceremony or the afternoon flag-lowering ceremony.
Selection Process
After registration closes, organizers will verify applicants' information. Successful applicants will receive an official invitation along with instructions on security procedures, arrival times, and attendance requirements.
Tips for Securing a Seat
With public interest expected to exceed available capacity, applicants are encouraged to:
Register as soon as the portal opens.
Use a stable internet connection.
Prepare all required documents in advance.
Double-check that personal information is accurate.
Upload a photo that meets the official requirements.
General Requirements
While the official rules for the 2026 ceremony have not yet been released, previous years required attendees to be Indonesian citizens, present a valid government-issued identity card upon arrival, and comply with the Palace's dress code and security regulations.
Authorities have also warned the public against purchasing tickets or accepting offers of paid access. Attendance at the Presidential Palace ceremony is granted exclusively through the government's official registration system, and no legitimate tickets are sold by third parties.
