TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to expand targeted investment cooperation with Indonesia, focusing on job creation, joint business ventures, and clearer project proposals from Jakarta, UAE Ambassador Abdulla Salem Al-Dhaheri said during a press conference at his residence in Kuningan on Friday evening, December 5, 2025.

The announcement comes as the two nations prepare to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2026.

“We encourage Indonesian sectors to submit proposals so we can engage directly and work together in an open and transparent manner,” Al-Dhaheri said.

Indonesia and the UAE have steadily expanded their bilateral cooperation in recent years, with projects spanning renewable energy, infrastructure, and other strategic sectors.

Al-Dhaheri highlighted flagship initiatives such as the Cirata Floating Solar Panel Project as evidence of the “good cooperation track” between the countries.

The UAE government is collaborating closely with private sector leaders, including Danantara Indonesia CEO Rosan Roslani, to explore broader investment opportunities.

“We are ready to enter various sectors without exception,” the ambassador said, emphasizing that creating job opportunities for Indonesian citizens remains a top priority.

Exploring Key Sectors and Opportunities

The UAE is actively seeking proposals in sectors such as food security, education, healthcare, tourism, general industry, and defense. In healthcare, the UAE welcomed Indonesia’s decision to allow foreign practitioners, while in education, cooperation is expected to become “much more interactive.”

Although the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) platform is still being refined, it is seen as a foundation to enhance trade balance and bilateral investment. The UAE hopes to announce new cooperative projects next year to mark the 50th anniversary.

Investment Focus

The UAE has already collaborated with the Indonesia Investment Authority on infrastructure projects, including toll road development in Sumatra and Java.

Al-Dhaheri stressed that intensifying cross-sector investment is part of a broader effort to strengthen the rapidly developing relationship between the two nations.

“Our focus is to explore every sector and to build partnerships that are mutually beneficial while prioritizing employment for Indonesians,” he said.
