TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A tour leader in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) has been blacklisted for five years. The tour leader, Chintami Mutiara Rachma Putri, was caught bringing an illegal hiker to Mount Semeru.

The Public Relations Officer of the TNBTS, Endrip Wahyutama, said the hiker was not registered in the official climbing registration system at https://bromotenggersemeru.id/. As a result, the hiker was directed to climb the mountain through an unofficial route.

"Indeed, someone has been blacklisted for five years from Semeru. There was an attempt to trespass the climbing route of Mount Semeru through the agricultural land owned by Ranupani Village residents," said Endrip to Antara in Malang City, East Java, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Passing through Rice Fields

Endrip explained that there are only seven registered climbers under Chintami's responsibility, while another one was not recorded in the system. Consequently, the hiker was barred from accessing the hiking trail by the TNBTS officers stationed at the ticket office and the main gate.

"The hiker accepted the decision," said Endrip.

Chintami, as the leader of the tour group, instead directed the unregistered hiker to enter the Mount Semeru trail through the rice fields. However, the officers managed to prevent both of them from entering deeper into the hiking trail after receiving reports from local residents.

"In this case, the hiker is positioned as a victim as they received inappropriate directions from the tour leader," he added.

Tour Leader Receives Sanction

The five-year blacklist sanction for climbing Mount Semeru imposed by the TNBTS has been accepted by Chintami. The woman from Tuban Regency, East Java, has followed up on the sanction by making a statement dated September 13, 2025.

In the statement, Chintami expressed her willingness to accept the five-year blacklist sanction after attempting to invite the unregistered hiker to proceed with Mount Semeru hiking.

Chintami did not deny that the hiker was initially asked by the TNBTS officers not to continue the climb. "We attempted to deceive the officers guarding the entrance to the Sinder Ong hiking gate by passing through the residents' agricultural land to avoid inspection," said Chintami in the statement, as received by the TNBTS.
